By ALEXIS SHAW April 27, 2013 Online deals site LivingSocial said its computer systems were hacked on Friday, which may have compromised the personal data of more than 50 million of its customers. Hackers gained access to customer data from the company’s servers, which included their names, email addresses, dates of birth, and encrypted passwords, the company said. The cyber attackers did not gain access to the database where customers’ credit card information was stored, LivingSocial spokesman Andrew Weinstein told ABC News.

Associated Press CENTRAL ISLIP, N.Y. — A Long Island programmer and systems manager is charged with hacking into his former employer’s computer system and causing more than $90,000 in damage. According to Newsday (http://bit.ly/ZEMrqI ), federal prosecutors say Michael Meneses was upset that he’d been passed over for a promotion. They say the alleged activity occurred after he quit in December 2011. U.S. Attorney Loretta Lynch says the defendant engaged in a “campaign of cyber vandalism and high-tech revenge.”

One interesting aspect of our privacy is photography and filming in public places. If you show up in a public place, then any individual can take a picture of you. There’s nothing you can do about it, you just have to accept it. And you ARE being photographed almost all the time. As you probably know, on Thursday the U.S. House of Representatives passed the Cyber Intelligence Sharing and Protection Act, better known as CISPA. The bill, which aims to help the government react to cybersecurity threats by making it easier to share information between itself and private companies, saw bipartisan support.

LIMA — Last month, Allen County officials learned that more than 1,100 county employees had personal information, including Social Security numbers, accidentally available on the Web. While the county took the information down within minutes of learning about it, the deed was done, so to speak. While there has been no evidence that any of the data contained in the breach were misused, the county did purchase LifeLock memberships for all employees and the few retired employees affected by the data breach. LifeLock is a company specializing in preventing identity theft.
